Working on New Art

Mon Apr 6, 2009, 10:22 AM
  • Listening to: Kate Bush - Cloudbusting (Donald Sutherland video)
  • Reading: DnD 4th Edition books (Nerd is as Nerd does)
  • Playing: Sim City 2000
So, I decided to start colouring a new picture.
It's not drawn by me, so that is weird in the first place, but on the other hand it allows me to focus on the colouring itself more, which, I readily admit, I adore. Not having to pay attention to the artwork itself and wanting to fix every little thing I may see is going a long way with keeping my focus on what I am doing that moment.

So far I am into it about 15 hours, and it looks quite nice, if I may say so (yeah, I am not exactly quick, but I haven't really done something like this since -years-, and I still end up looking at a lot of tutorials for tips and such. It is going slowly but surely).

One thing I recognized this time was that I actually looked forward to tackling each part of the artwork by itself, instead of wanting to get it -done- so to speak. Since it's a dragon picture, I had time to spend on the scales, which I tried to make differently looking from the non scaled parts, only to then look for a different way to the stomach and chest part, accidentally making the dragon a bit more muscular than he already was. Oops.

Now that the body has been completed, I am spending a lot of time thinking about what background to add (that is new too. I was never much into doing something like that, but I feel quite curious about what would fit the best and how to do it).

So, once more I am looking at tutorials, which makes me smile. I find that going back drawing/painting/colouring has been a great decision so far, and I look forward to doing it as often as I can, which isn't as often as I wish, now with moving and all.
